The question “Who is Sandy Berger?” was asked to Adriana Ross, a co-conspirator of Jeffrey Epstein by attorney Bradley Edwards in 2010.
So who is Sandy Berger anyway?
January 20, 1993. Sandy Berger was Deputy National Security Advisor under President Clinton from January 20, 1993, until March 14, 1997, when he was promoted.
April, 1996. Sandy Berger refused to act on information provided to him that China was conducting Espionage at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
New York Times: Energy Department investigators first told Mr. Berger in April 1996 of suspicions that China had stolen designs for America’s most advanced nuclear weapon in the 1980’s from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. They also mentioned intelligence reports that China may have more recently stolen neutron bomb designs. Mr. Berger asserts that this 1996 briefing was cast only in general terms and that he did not learn the true extent of the problems until mid-1997. Others who attended the meeting dispute this. If they are right, Mr. Berger should have briefed Mr. Clinton and ordered immediate security improvements at the nuclear weapons labs in 1996. Yet Mr. Clinton was not alerted to the seriousness of the problem until July 1997, and lab security has been tightened only in the past few months. Unfortunately, the White House’s initial handling of the nuclear espionage cases in 1996 seemed to reflect a tolerant attitude toward Chinese misconduct. It remains unclear whether the response was motivated by a desire to avoid friction with China at a time when the White House was trying to mend tattered relations, or whether Mr. Berger and his colleagues failed to recognize the significance of the espionage information when it was first presented to them.
December 9, 1996. President Clinton meets with General Chi Haotian, who ordered the massacre at Tiananmen Square in 1989.
The most disheartening Oval Office photograph I have ever seen showed — last December — a smiling president seated next to Gen. Chi Hoatian, the Chinese defense minister. In 1989, when Gen. Chi was chief of staff of the People’s Liberation Army, he was in charge of the massacre of unarmed pro-democracy students in Tiananmen Square. (Some held replicas of the Statue of Liberty.) As John Diamond has noted in The Post, “hundreds, perhaps thousands” were killed on orders of Gen. Chi. (Paragraph) . While a number of Republicans in Congress protested the welcoming of Chi by the leader of the free world — with flags flying and cannon firing over the Potomac — a lone Democrat, Nancy Pelosi of California, publicly denounced the Clinton administration for having “given great face to the hard-liners in the Chinese regime.” (Paragraph) . I asked her reaction to that Oval Office photograph of Clinton and the smug general. “Oh, my God,” she said, “I thought I would never see the day. The president won’t see the Dalai Lama, he won’t see the pro-democracy dissidents, he won’t see Harry Wu, but he did see this thug. It’s absolutely appalling.” (Paragraph)… “I thought it would be different when the Democrats came in,” she said. (Paragraph). When Gen. Chi came to Washington to get his military honors, the CIA distributed his biography to members of Congress and other officials. Nancy Pelosi made it known publicly that the CIA had omitted any mention of the Tiananmen Square massacre in that biography. She did not get a thank-you note from the White House.
“Sandy Berger,” she notes, “was the point person at the Hogan & Hartson law firm for the trade office of the Chinese government. He was a lawyer-lobbyist. When he went into the Clinton administration he was second to Tony Lake, and now he is the national security adviser.”
March 14, 1997. Sandy Berger is promoted from Deputy National Security Advisor to National Security Advisor. He stayed in this role for the rest of President Clinton’s term.
August 1998. Sandy Berger approved Cruise missile strikes into Sudan and Afghanistan in August 1998 over the objections of the intelligence community, and defended the targets selected after they were criticized in the press. As I wrote here, these strikes served to strengthen the position of Osama bin Laden at a time when Saudi intelligence was negotiating with the Taliban to turn him over.
November 30, 1999. This is the earliest reference to what the 9/11 Commission called the “Millennium Crisis” and others have called the “Millennium Plot.” “On November 30, 1999, Jordanian intelligence intercepted a telephone call between Abu Zubaydah, a longtime ally of Bin Ladin, and Khadr Abu Hoshar, a Palestinian extremist. Abu Zubaydah said, “The time for training is over.” Jordan soon made arrests. Later in December, the United States made arrests in a plot to bomb LAX. Other operations were foiled all over the world.
March, 2000. The Millennium Alert After Action Report is prepared. This is an analysis of the performance of the intelligence agencies in response to the Millennium threats. It makes recommendations for changes, expresses a need for greater funding, and analyzes future threats. One of the threats was the existence of “sleeper cells” in the United States. There were several versions of this report. Here’s one, with redactions. MAAR.
November 27, 2002. The 9/11 Commission begins over the objections of Dick Cheney.
May or June 2003. REDACTED was contacted by the 9/11 Commission. Mr. or Mrs. REDACTED (why can’t the public know who?) was a “liaison between the Clinton Administration and the (National) Archives.” REDACTED then asked Sandy Berger to “go to the Archives to review records in response to the Executive Office of the President’s (EOP) requests.”
According to Wikipedia, the Executive Office of the President is “a group of agencies at the center of the executive branch of the United States federal government. The EOP supports the work of the president. It consists of several offices and agencies, such as the White House Office (the staff working directly for and reporting to the president, including West Wing staff and the president’s closest advisers), the National Security Council, and the Office of Management and Budget.” So basically, the Bush White House called REDACTED who was associated with the former Clinton White House, and then REDACTED called Berger.
September-October 2003. Sandy Berger reviewed the MAAR at the National Archives, stole more than one version of the report, and destroyed some of the reports.
July 19, 2004. Wikipedia: “it was revealed that the United States Department of Justice was investigating Berger for unauthorized removal of classified documents in October 2003 from a National Archives reading room prior to testifying before the 9/11 Commission.”
September 24, 2004. Sandy Berger testifies to the 9/11 Commission. When asked directly about “sleeper cells,” Berger answers: “The FBI had generally taken the position that there was not a significant al Qaeda presence in the United States. And that was the position that they took quite honestly, Mr. Commissioner, through the end of 2000 and when we left, that there was not a substantial presence and what presence was here was a sense — we have it covered.” He also denies that Pakistan tipped Osama bin Laden off about the coming missile strikes in Afghanistan.
November 28, 2004. Washington Post: “Palm Beach police fielded a tip that young women were seen coming and going from Epstein’s home, then-Police Chief Michael Reiter said in a deposition.” This was less than two weeks after Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were at odds over a bid for a property in Palm Beach, an incident that President Trump seems to refer to when he says that they fell out 15 years ago. The Washington Post implies (in my opinion) that Donald Trump originated the tip to the Palm Beach PD.
April 1, 2005. Sandy Berger agrees to a plea deal with the United States. He pays a small fine and receives probation. He gives up his security clearance for three years, but can get it back afterwards. This was a “Sweetheart Deal” from the Bush Administration before Jeffrey Epstein got his. Reality Winner is in prison right now for the same type crime. She took and “leaked” a document to the press; Berger took and destroyed his documents. You can weight those crimes differently but not to the extent that one person gets a slap on the wrist and another one goes to prison.
September 24, 2005. Sandy Berger flies from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, to Teterboro, New Jersey on Epstein’s Gulfstream. There is nothing in the flight logs on how Berger made it to the Virgin Islands in the first place. Epstein didn’t have an airstrip on Little St. James Island. Epstein and company would land at St. Thomas and then cross to Little St. James by boat or helicopter.
Late September 2005. Sandy Berger calls “the house” of Jeffrey Epstein, according to Bradley Edwards question. The screenshot below is from a deposition of Adriana Ross by attorney Bradley Edwards. Edwards asks her, “Did he tip off Jeffrey Epstein.” I would add here that most of the information that Bradley Edwards had on Jeffrey Epstein came from Donald Trump. Bradley Edwards: “He is the only person, who in 2009 when I served a lot of subpoenas, on a lot of people, or at least gave notice to some pretty connected people that I wanted to talk to them, he is the only person who picked up the phone and said ‘Let’s just talk. I’ll give you as much time as you want. I’ll tell you what you need to know,’ and was very helpful in the information that he gave, and gave no indication whatsoever that he was involved in anything untoward whatsoever, but had good information that checked out and that helped us. And we didn’t have to take a deposition of him.”
October 20, 2005. Miami Herald: Jeffrey Epstein’s house is searched by the Palm Beach Police Department. “The day of the search on Oct. 20, 2005, they found that most of Epstein’s computer hard drives, surveillance cameras and videos had been removed from the house, leaving loose, dangling wires, according to the police report.”
Janus Banasiak testified in a deposition to Bradley Edwards that Adriana Ross and another man showed up and removed computers prior to the search of Epstein’s home by the Palm Beach Police Department. I wrote here that I feel like Adrian Ross knows too much for her own safety, because these computers had Epstein’s whole operation on them probably. I’ve yet to hear of any plea deal for her from William Barr.
Detective Joseph Recarey of the Palm Beach Police Department told the Miami Herald that state attorney Barry Krischer refused to issue a subpoena to go get the computers after they had been moved. The article doesn’t state so, but they surely would have had the house under surveillance at this point and known who removed the computers. Recarey died “after a brief illness” in 2018.
So that’s who Sandy Berger is.
